INJECTION, CAPSULES
Viccillin is one of the synthetic penicillin derived from 6-amino penicillanic acid which was isolated at Beecham Research Laboratories, England, and it generic name is ampicillin.
Viccillin is the first penicillin which has broad antibacterial spectrum. It markedly effective against Gram-negative bacteria as well as Gram-positive bacteria. It's action is bactericidal.
COMPOSITION
Vial contains 250 mg, 500 mg, 1 g of ampicillin as the sodium salt.
Bottle 100 ml contains 2 g: of ampicillin sodium salt for infus.
Capsule contains 250 mg or 500 mg of Ampicillin Trihydrate.
ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY
Viccilin is effective against Gram - positive and Gram - negative bacteria. The following table shows it's minimum inhibitory concentration against various bacteria.

ABSORPTION AND EXCRETION
Viccillin attains the highest blood concentration within 30 minutes to 1 hour after intramuscular injection and 1 to 2 hours after oral administration, and hardly observed in the blood 6 hours after administration.
It's also high concentration in the bile and urine 30 percent given dose excreted in the urine within 6 hours after administration.
INDICATIONS
For the treatment of the infections disease such as: infections in the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract infections, urinary tract infection and ENT infections caused by susceptible microorganisms as: Shigella, E. coi, Proteus mirabilis, Haemophylus influenzae, Enterococci, S. hemolyticus., D. pneumoniae N. gonorrhoea, and Staphylococci susceptible to Benzylpenicillin as :
Septicaemia, Bacterial endocarditis, Furuncle, Carbuncle, Impetigo, Pyoderma Phlegmon, Mastitis, Lymphadenitis, Osteomyelitis, Tonsillitis, Pharyngitis, Laryngitis, Bronchitis, Pneumoniae, Suppurative disease of the lung, Empyema Baccilary dysentery, Cholangitis, Cholecystitis, Peritonitis, Acute pancreatitis, Liverabscess, Pyelonephritis, Cystitis, Urethritis, Intrauterine infections, Gonorrhoea, Syphylis.
Scarlet fever Palpebral abscess, Sty, Serpiginous corneal ulcer, Otitis, media, Paranasal sinusitis, Acute pyorrhoea alveolaris, Acute apical suppurative, periodentitis, Pericoronitis of the wisdom teeth, Alveolar genal abscess, Alveolar osteitis, Acute jaws inflammation, Infection after dental extraction. Secondary infections after wounds and burns, Post operative infections, Prophylactic of infections after severe burns Actinomycosis, Anthrax.
CONTRA INDICATIONS
The drug is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any penicillin.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
- Intramuscular; Usually, for adults, a dose of 250 - 1 g (base) is injected intramuscular 2 to 4 times a day.
- Intravenous; Usually, for adults, a daily dose of 1 to 2 g (base) of the drug is injected intravenously in one or 2 equal doses by dissolving with physiological saline JP or glucose solution for injection. In case of intravenous drip infusion, for adults a daily dose or 2 to 4 g (base) of the drug is usually administered in one or 2 equal doses by dissolving in 100 to 500 ml of transfusion solution taking an infusion period of 1 to 2 hours. For children: 100 mg - 200 mg per kg body weight per day divided equally 1 - 2 times.
Viccillin capsules 250 mg - 1000 mg (base), four times a day.
The dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's age and the severity of the symptoms.
PRECAUTIONS
Viccillin hardly produces side effects. However penicillin allergic symptoms such as urticaria and drug eruption are in rare cases observed. As anaphylaxis is very rarely developed in the patients highly hypersensitive to penicillin, attention should be paid to the symptoms when intracutaneous reaction is positive.
During or after the administration. If the symptoms such as indisposition, wheeze, ringing in the ears etc, are observed, lay the patient quietly and give the treatment quickly.
Super infections, especially in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly when large doses were given or therapy was prolonged.
(Enterobacter, Pseudomonas, S. aureus, Candida are some organisms involved)
Safe use in pregnancy has not been established.
STORAGE AND DURATION
Store at temperature 15° - 30°C and should be used before the expiry date indicated on the label.

Viccillin for injection 250 mg, 500 mg, 1 g products are available in packages containing 10 vials.
Viccillin for infusion 2 g available in 100 ml bottle, in a package containing 10 bottles.
Viccillin capsules 250 mg and 500 mg products are available in packages containing 100 capsules.
